Seal Beach
Seal Beach is a city on the coast of Orange County, California, in the United States. The population was 25,242 as of the 2020 census, up from 24,168 in 2010.
Seal Beach lies in the far western reaches of Orange County. Long Beach and the surrounding San Pedro Bay are located to the northwest, directly across the border with Los Angeles County. Huntington Harbour, a Huntington Beach area, and Sunset Beach, also a Huntington Beach neighborhood, are to the southeast. To the east are the cities of Westminster and West Garden Grove, both of which are part of the city of Garden Grove. The unincorporated settlement of Rossmoor and the city of Los Alamitos are located to the north. The Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach military installation occupies the majority of the city’s land.
Seal Beach has a population of 24,168 people according to the 2010 United States Census. The population density per square mile was 1,853.3 (715.6/km2). Seal Beach’s racial makeup was 20,154 (83.4%) White (76.9% Non-Hispanic White),[24] 279 (1.2%) African American, 65 (0.3%) Native American, 2,309 (9.6%) Asian, 58 (0.2%) Pacific Islander, 453 (1.9%) other races, and 850 (3.5%) multiracial. There were 2,331 residents of any race who were Hispanic or Latino (9.6%).
According to the Census, 23,943 people (99.1% of the population) lived in homes, 22 (0.1%) in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 203 (0.8%) were institutionalized.
There were 13,017 households, 1,866 (14.3%) of which contained children under the age of 18, 4,891 (37.6%) of which were opposite-sex married couples living together. There were 788 (6.1%) female householders with no husband present, and 283 (2.2%) male householders with no wife present. There were 383 (2.9%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships and 66 (0.5%) married couples or partnerships of the same gender. Individuals made up 6,312 (48.5%) of the households, with 4,340 (33.3%) having someone 65 or older living alone. The average family size was 1.84 people. There were 5,962 families (45.8% of all households), with a family size of 2.65 people on average.
In Seal Beach, there were 3,151 people (13.0%) under the age of 18, 1,176 people (4.9%) between the ages of 18 and 24, 4,076 people (16.9%) between the ages of 25 and 44, 6,513 people (26.9%) between the ages of 45 and 64, and 9,252 people (38.3%) aged 65 or older. The average age was 57.3 years old. There were 78.8 males for every 100 females. There were 76.3 males for every 100 females aged 18 and up.
There were 14,558 housing units with an average density of 1,116.4 per square mile (431.0/km2), with 9,713 (74.6%) owned and 3,304 (25.4%) rented. The vacancy rate for homeowners was 2.0%, while the vacancy rate for rentals was 4.4%. Owner-occupied housing units housed 17,689 individuals (73.2% of the population), while rental housing units housed 6,254 persons (25.9%).
Between 2009 and 2013, the median family income in Seal Beach was $51,242, with 9.9% of the population living below the federal poverty level.
