Cars Land

Cars Land is a Disney California Adventure themed section inspired by the DisneyPixar franchise, Cars, and Route 66 in America. The 12-acre (4.9 ha) area, developed as part of the $1.1 billion expansion project at Disney California Adventure Park, opened on June 13, 2012, a year after the premiere of Cars 2. It features three rides, as well as stores and restaurants, all set in a recreation of Radiator Springs, the fictional town in which the majority of the events of the first film take place. Radiator Springs Racers, a racing rollercoaster inspired by Epcot’s Test Track, is the area’s major attraction.

Radiator Springs race day is the theme of Cars Land. According to legend, Lightning McQueen and his Radiator Springs pals welcomed cars from all over the world to celebrate race day in the town where it all began. The town was decked to welcome automobiles (and drivers) from all over. Mater took out a jukebox to offer music for the race, but it instead attracted several tractors. Luigi invited his relatives from Carsoli to visit, and they are celebrating race day by dancing.

Radiator Springs Racers

Radiator Springs Racers is a dark slot car ride. The attraction transports visitors in six-person vehicles along the twisting roads outside Radiator Springs and by the waterfall sequence from the first film. The automobiles then enter the hills and ride through the outskirts of town, where they meet a variety of individuals. They eventually arrive in Radiator Springs, where the track splits in two: one into Ramone’s and the other into Luigi’s. The automobiles then enter a briefing area where Doc provides guests tips for the forthcoming race. The two tracks rejoin and two automobiles come to a stop side by side. The race starts with the vehicles accelerating off of the mountain and over hairpin corners and steep banks, culminating in a randomized race outcome and a brief excursion through Tail Light Caverns. The technology employed is comparable to Test Track at Walt Disney World in Florida and Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea.

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (renamed Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree during Halloween and Mater’s Jingle Jamboree during Christmas) is a substantially modified 3-table Zamperla Demolition Derby attraction with Walt Disney Imagineering custom ride vehicles. Instead of the typical car-shaped ride vehicles, Disney created unique ones that included a non-rideable tractor coupled by a swinging hitch to a rickshaw-like bench with a swinging wheel on the bottom that allowed the benches to “drift” along the corners in a manner similar to a whip ride. The ride is based after Mater’s jamboree for the young tractors shown in the first film, and it includes several original songs sung by Larry the Cable Guy and other singers and musicians.

Since Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree debuted with Cars Land in 2012, similar attractions have been created. The most current example is Alien Swirling Saucers, a mirrored duplicate themed to the small aliens in the Pizza Planet claw game from the original Toy Story film and located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A regular 2-table Demolition Derby with the original non-swinging ride cars was also erected at the Disneyland Paris resort’s Walt Disney Studios Park, however unlike the other two rides, this version has no distinctive musical score and just little theming.

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters (also known as Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween at Halloween and Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl at Christmas) – Guests line up at Luigi’s Casa Della Tires and ride in cars that move and spin to Italian music. The ride mechanism is trackless, comparable to Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea. The ride cars are portrayed as Luigi’s cousins who have traveled from Carsoli to Radiator Springs for a dance celebration. The attraction, which debuted on March 7, 2016, took the place of the previous attraction at this area, Luigi’s Flying Tires.
