Brea Mall

The Brea Mall is a shopping center found in the Californian city of Brea in Orange County. The Simon Property Group has owned and run the mall since 1998. It has 179 specialist retailers and boutiques, four sizable department stores, and a food court. 1.319.599 square feet (122,595 m2). In addition to Macy’s, Macy’s Men’s & Home, JCPenney, and Nordstrom, the anchors include Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Macy’s Men’s & Home. One vacant anchor, which was once occupied by Sears, is still being converted into Life Time Fitness, retail, entertainment, and apartments.

In 1977, the mall was opened. Initially, Sears and May Company California served as the mall’s anchor. Later, Nordstrom opened their second California location and The Broadway was added. In the early 1990s, a Y-shaped expansion to the main mall along with a larger Nordstrom and J. W. Robinson’s were built.

J. W. Robinson’s and May Company California were combined by The May Department Stores Company to establish Robinsons-May in 1993. As a result, the May Company California facility was renamed and expanded, and the J. W. Robinson’s store was sold to JCPenney and relocated from its original location at Orangefair Marketplace in Fullerton. After Carter Hawley Hale Stores, the parent business of The Broadway, was acquired by Federated Department Stores, Inc. in 1996, The Broadway was transformed into a Macy’s.

In 2006, the Robinsons-May location was transformed into a Macy’s furnishings shop as a result of the merger of Federated Department Stores and The May Department Stores Company. The Brea Mall also included an ice skating rink in the 1970s and 1980s, but it was ultimately taken down to make room for the food court.

Sears announced on January 4th, 2018, that their Brea location would be closed as part of a statewide plan to liquidate 103 shops. The last original anchor store to close was this one; it did so on April 8, 2018.

Simon revealed plans to transform the Sears into a Life Time Fitness facility with new retail, entertainment, and apartments on three levels on April 9, 2018. The opening of the first phase is anticipated for the fall of 2020, followed by the opening of the subsequent phases in 2021. One of Simon’s five malls, which Sears was forced to close, is slated for redevelopment. Pink’s Hot Dogs debuted their own eatery here in June.
